Hey, bitches! I am back and better! I wanted to share something super personal and eye-opening that’s been happening in my life recently. It’s about therapy—something I’ve always been curious about but never really took the plunge into. If you’ve ever wondered whether therapy is worth it or if it’s something to be embarrassed about, I hope my experience can shed some light.
So, about two weeks ago, I finally decided to try therapy for the first time. I found a therapist through a recommendation and went in with stress and anxiety. I am always a bit anxious the first time I do things and this was major ANXIETY ALERT! I was feeling a pit in my stomach.
But, to be honest, the session was just…ok. It felt generic, with a hint of judgment at times, and I left feeling like I hadn’t really gotten anywhere. It made me think this was the way it’s supposed to be. I was just telling her my background story or what I thought it’s important, but she didn’t give me any insight or perspective. I was having a monologue and we were having the session on a WhatsApp facetime call. So, another annoying aspect.
Fast forward to a chat I had with Denisa, my friend and cosmetician. I mentioned my not-so-great therapy experience, she recommended her therapist, saying that this woman worked wonders for her. I didn’t even hesitate. Amazing, give me her number!
This Friday, I went to see this new therapist. The session lasted two hours, and wow—it was a game-changer. Unlike my first experience, this therapist really connected with me. She had a way of making me feel understood and safe, which helped me open up more. We dug into some deep stuff, and I left feeling like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
This got me thinking: Is therapy shameful or revolutionary? There’s definitely a stigma out there about going to therapy, like it’s something you should be embarrassed about. But honestly, after my experience, I see it as a revolutionary act of self-care. It’s a place where you can really explore who you are, face your fears, and start healing. Sure, it can be uncomfortable at times, but that’s just part of the growth process.
So, if you’re on the fence about trying therapy, I say go for it. It can be a bit difficult to find the right therapist, but once you do, it can make such a difference. It’s all about finding someone you vibe with who can help guide you through your own self-discovery journey.
Thanks for reading, and remember, there’s no shame in taking care of yourself. We’re all just trying to figure things out, one step at a time.
